Reducing emissions to net-zero by 2050 is possible, if the right technologies are brought to commercial scale within the next decade.
The First Movers Coalition is a group of forward-thinking companies ready to jumpstart the global demand for these critical emerging solutions, helping to mobilize the necessary investments and draw down costs.
Members will use their global purchasing power to create new markets for these emerging technologies. These new demand signals empower suppliers to develop and scale their innovations between now and 2030 – helping us to reach our global emission targets.
The First Movers Coalition is a public-private partnership between the US State Department, through Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, the World Economic Forum and is supported by the US Department of Commerce. It works across sectors and collaborates with leading climate experts and mission-aligned organizations as a platform to accelerate and scale collective impact.
Roughly 50% of the technologies we need for net-zero emissions by 2050 are still under development, in the prototype or demonstration phases, and not yet available on the market
Reduce a third of the world's emissions
The first phase of the First Movers Coalition will focus on "hard-to-abate" sectors, the industries representing more than one-third of the world’s carbon emissions. These include aviation, aluminium, chemicals, concrete, shipping, steel, trucking and direct air capture.

The First Movers Coalition leverages collective purchasing power from companies to send a clear demand signal to scale up critical emerging technologies essential for the net-zero transition.
